IBM’s Software Segment generated revenue of $5.77Billion during the first quarter. That was 12% more than the consensus estimate by StreetAccount among analysts.
Revenue from consulting rose by 13%, to $4.83Billion. This is higher than StreetAccount consensus at $4.6B.
As clients get ready for IBM’s new mainframe computer, revenue from infrastructure dropped 2% to $3.22 Billion.

From 27% at the beginning of the fourth quarter to 24.3%, IBM’s consultancy business saw its gross margin drop to 25%. The company-wide gross margin was 51.7%.
