3 Things to Watch -Breaking

Investing.com – Stocks ended the day mixed on Wednesday as a 35% plunge in Netflix (NASDAQ:) shares weighed on tech stocks but strong earnings from other companies lifted the Dow.

More corporate earnings will come after the closing bell and on Thursday, when AT&T and Snap will report, among others.

Analysts listen to company earnings in order to get updates on companies’ plans for raising interest rates due the red hot inflation. While companies have been required to increase pricing to their customers, profit margins are under threat.

We also get data for Thursday on the new week. The recent trend puts the figures near the multi-decade mark.

Jerome Powell, the Federal Reserve Chair will give two public speeches on Thursday. He also participated in an early morning panel discussion at the IMF/World Bank spring meetings in Washington about the global economic situation.

China has eased some Covid-19 restrictions, but oil prices remain under pressure. China is fighting an epidemic in key regions. On Wednesday, the U.S. exchanged for $103 per barrel.

This week, President Joe Biden is scheduled to travel to Washington for a speech regarding clean energy programs supported by the Obama administration. Expect him to explain how his infrastructure spending bill, which was passed last year, will be used to invest in electric vehicle charging stations and electric vehicle adoption by buyers. He also plans on showcasing greater broadband access.

Three things could impact the markets in tomorrow’s future:

1. AT&T earnings

AT&T Inc (NYSE:) will report earnings Thursday before the open. According to Investing.com analysts, the company beat revenue and earnings expectations. It is likely to report earnings per share at 75c on revenues of $38.25billion.

AT&T recently completed the spinoff of its WarnerMedia entertainment and news division to Discovery (NASDAQ:) and has plans to double-down on its legacy telecommunications business as it invests heavily in the 5G buildout.

2. Snap earnings

Snap Inc (NYSE:) will report on the latest quarter ending tomorrow with analyst polled. Investing.comExpect a social media company to post a 17c per share loss on $1.07billion in revenue. Analysts will continue to listen closely for data about daily and monthly average users, growth projections and other details.

3. Powell speaks

Fed Chair Powell will make two appearances on Thursday. At 11:00 AM ET, Powell will give opening remarks for Volcker Alliance/Penn Institute for Urban Research. He will then make the second appearance at IMF World Bank at 1:00 PM ET, in which he will join a panel discussion along with Christine Lagarde (European Central Bank President) and other policymakers.
