DAKAR, (Reuters) – Air France stated Wednesday that Senegal’s capital Dakar will fly to Paris from Spain. The reason for this is a lack of refined products in Senegal. It has been a time when motorists have waited in line for fuel.

Senegal’s Energy Minister Sophie Gladima described it as a “tense supply” situation due to difficulty getting fuel from the international market.

Gladima said Tuesday night on state TV RTS that Senegal expected a supply vessel with at least 1000 tonnes of jet fuel to arrive on Wednesday.

Senegal’s Airport Authorities on April 18 warned Dakar international airport airlines to ensure they have sufficient fuel to return to their destinations.

This warning came as the airport’s Jet Fuel Supplier had stated in an internal memo that they would no longer be able refuel aircraft for the next two weeks until April due to difficulty obtaining supplies.

Air France informed Reuters via email that its Dakar Paris flights were currently stopping in Las Palmas, Spain to refuel until further notice.

A reporter from Reuters saw drivers queuing up at Dakar’s petrol stations, as several other motorists ran out of fuel.

Senegal’s SAR refinery produces around 27,000 barrels of oil per day. It has been down since November to undergo scheduled maintenance. They expect to restart production before the end April.
