WASHINGTON, (Reuters) – Airlines and airports including Uber, the ride-sharing service (NYSE:), and Amtrak national train service are no longer subject to mask mandates. These have been in effect for over a year.

The shift comes after a judge in Florida ruled against a federal mandate and the Biden administration said it would not enforce one even as COVID-19 infections are rising https://graphics.reuters.com/world-coronavirus-tracker-and-maps/countries-and-territories/united-states in the United States, and more than 400 people are dying per day from the airborne disease. The White House still urges Americans to use masks in certain areas.

HOSPITALS, NURSING HOMES, CLINICS

UnityPoint Health in Iowa and Wisconsin has dropped the requirement for masks on patients and visitors to their hospitals.

The majority of hospitals still need masks in the indoors.

BROADWAY SHOWS

More than 40 Broadway theaters will still require masks until at least the end of May, according to a website https://www.broadway.org/info/covid-19-updates representing the theaters.

NEW YORK, BOSTON, SAN FRANCISCO

Some cities in the United States, such as Washington D.C. suspended quickly mask regulations in public transport and other public places, while others maintained them.

New York City has a large transportation system that requires passengers to wear masks when they travel indoors. Passengers on Boston’s commuter train network, BART transit system and Boston’s buses must wear masks.

New York’s JFK International Airport and LaGuardia airports kept the mask requirements in effect, but these were removed at Newark, New Jersey.

PRIVATE BUSINESSES

Patrons can be asked to use masks by small business owners, who may refuse to allow them in.

SOME UNIVERSITIES

Recent COVID-19 case increases meant that only a handful of universities and colleges have reintroduced indoor mask requirements. Georgetown University reinstated the indoor mask requirement on April 7. They cited a significant increase in COVID-19 case due to contagious BA.2 variant.

Johns Hopkins recently reinstated the mask mandate in dining halls and common areas after an epidemic of COVID infection following Spring Break.

JAILS and PRISONS

According to their website information, visitors to most jails and prisons must still wear masks. This includes Los Angeles County which is home to the largest jail in the country and Washington State.

AUTUMN-CANADA BORDER

U.S. citizens who travel to Canada from the United States must still wear masks upon crossing the border and 14 days thereafter.
