(Reuters) – Alec Baldwin’s lawyer said Thursday that a New Mexico investigation had cleared him of any wrongdoing. The report claimed that Baldwin believed that his gun contained only dummy bullets.

The six-month long investigation into the shooting of Western movies last October by New Mexico’s Occupational Health and Safety Bureau was published Wednesday. The agency blasted Rust movie productions LLC for “willful” safety violations that led to Halyna Hutchins’s death and assessed the fine at $137,000 as the maximum.

Baldwin’s legal team responded to these findings with a statement stating that their authority only covered the approval of script changes, creative casting, and that no other matters were under his control.

Baldwin shared a statement via Instagram that stated that “We appreciate the fact that the investigation exonerates Mr. Baldwin” and that he believes the gun holds only dummy round.” “We are glad that New Mexico officials have addressed these important issues.”

Unfortunately, the agency wasn’t immediately available for comment.

Hutchins was struck in the shoulder by a bullet from a revolver Baldwin held and was killed.

According to the New Mexico Environment Department, an investigation revealed that the producer firm knew firearm safety protocols were not being adhered to and displayed “plain indifference” towards the dangers.

Stefan Friedman of Rust Film Productions stated Wednesday in a statement that his company did not agree with the findings. He said the company would appeal.

According to the probe, Rust management failed to address crew concerns about misfires of firearms and pyrotechnics at set.

Reports state that Rust management did not allow staff responsible for firearms safety enough time to inspect ammunition received in order to verify there were no live bullets.

Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office, Santa Fe County District attorney are conducting criminal investigations into the death.
