(Reuters) -AT&T Inc on Thursday posted a 2.5% rise in core wireless revenue for the first quarter, as the telecom giant benefited from the expansion of its fiber internet and 5G services.

Dallas, Texas-based WarnerMedia completed the merger with Discovery Inc (NASDAQ:) Inc in early May to create Warner Bros. Discovery added 691,000 monthly telephone subscribers in the third quarter.

AT&T (NYSE:) is refocusing on its original business of providing internet and phone services after unwinding a years-long effort to become a media and entertainment company.

Shares of AT&T rose 1.5% to $19.73 in premarket trading.

From $29 billion last year, the company’s core wireless business revenue rose to $29.7billion in the quarter.

However, total revenue was more than 13% lower due to the divested satellite television business and weakening in its wireline business unit.

Global subscribers of premium TV channel HBO Max and streaming service HBO Max increased 3 million compared to the last quarter.

Common stock income fell to $4.8 Billion, which is 65c per share, compared to $1.02 per share at $7.5 Billion a year ago.
