© Reuters. Boeing (BA), to Start 787 Dreamliner Delivery in H2 2022. – ReportBoeing (NYSE 🙂 has informed airlines, parts suppliers that Boeing expects to resume 787 Dreamliner delivery in the second half 2022 according to Reuters.
Resuming deliveries later this year will be crucial for Boeing’s plans to gradually ramp up the 787 production and support the supply chain that has been facing significant challenges in the recent period.
Boeing originally planned to restart 787 delivery this month. However, the planemaker was forced back to May. Reports suggest that more delays could be possible as it continues inspections and repairs to structural defects in approximately 100 787 aircraft.
According to Reuters, Boeing informed its clients that it expects deliveries to continue during the second half this year. The most realistic goal is for the third quarter. It will not give a date when the company can resume delivery.
It is expected that the delay in production will cost around $5.5 billion.
Boeing spokesmen said that the Federal Aviation Administration will determine when 787 deliveries will resume.
“As stated, we take the necessary time to conform to our strict specifications. “Safety dictates the timeframe,” a spokesperson for FAA said.
The FAA pulled Boeing’s ability to self-certify 787 airplanes two months ago, saying it would give not give back that ability until it sees that the planemaker can build jets that meet design standards.
Boeing has a well-designed plan “for the re-work that it must perform on a large volume of new 787s in storage,” said the FAA spokesperson.
Boeing is due to report earnings on April 27, with many investors interested in seeing the details of the company’s performance after it was forced to reduce production, weighing further on the already crippled supply chain.
Pre-open Thursday saw a 1% increase in the stock price of Boeing.
