PARIS (Reuters), Carlos Ghosn is a former executive in the car industry who was appointed CEO of the company. Renault (EPA) and Nissan (OTC), was “surprised” at earlier media reports, which claimed that French prosecutors had ordered an international arrest for Ghosn.
Ghosn spokeswoman told Reuters, “This is astonishing. Ghosn always cooperated avec French authorities.”
Ghosn spokesperson was speaking out after French media reported French prosecutors had issued a warrant international for Ghosn.
An investigating magistrate issued five international arrest warrants against Ghosn and the current owners or former directors of the Omani company Suhail Bahwan Automobiles, a vehicle distributor in Oman, the prosecutor’s office in the Paris suburb of Nanterre said to The Wall Street Journal.
Ghosn, they claim, funneled Renault funds worth millions to his personal use through Omani’s car distributor. This included the purchase of an 120-foot yacht.
Nanterre’s prosecutor was not available for comment immediately.
Ghosn stated to Reuters last year in an interview that he is prepared to go through a long process with French authorities to get his name cleared. He also promised to contest an Interpol warrant barring him travel to Lebanon.
