Renault’s Q1 sales fall as Ukraine conflict and semiconductor crisis hit market -Breaking

PARIS (Reuters). Renault The Western automaker that is most vulnerable to Russian markets, (EPA:), saw a decrease in its first quarter revenue compared with a year ago due to conflict in Ukraine, and difficulties in supplying semiconductors to the market. According to the group that also manufactures Dacia and Lada vehicles, its sales declined by 2.7% over a previous year, falling to 9.748 million euros ($10.6billion). The figure was lower than the 1.1% drop in Renault Russia and Avtovaz’s activities.

Renault is pushing forward with its plans to separate its combustion (electric) and business (combustion) businesses as it competes against rivals like Tesla (NASDAQ:), and Volkswagen (ETR :). It also reviews its Russian operations amid extensive Western sanctions.

Renault announced that it had confirmed its March financial outlook, and would provide more detail on its strategies and targets later in the year.

“In a market environment severely disrupted by the conflict in Ukraine, the semiconductor crisis and inflation, Renault Group is continuing its recovery and accelerating the implementation of its strategy,” Thierry Piéton, Renault’s finance chief, said in a statement.
