WASHINGTON, (Reuters) – U.S. Vice President Joe Biden took a surprising dig at Republican adversaries during Friday’s Earth Day remarks. Referring to President Donald Trump’s slogan “Make America Great Again”, Biden called his party the “MAGA” party.

“This ain’t your father’s Republican Party,” Biden said during remarks in Seattle, as he described the difficulty in getting Republican support for his climate change and other goals in Congress.

“All you got to do is look at what’s being played this morning, about the tape that was released,” Biden said, without going into specifics.

This was in reference to an audiotape released this week which featured Kevin McCarthy, the highest ranking Republican in the U.S House of Representatives, saying then that Donald Trump must resign after the U.S Capitol riot of January 6, 2021.

McCarthy publicly attacked Trump’s guilt for Jan. 6 Riot, saying that the ex-president was partly responsible for it. McCarthy visited Trump at Mar-a-Lago Resort in Florida.

“All kidding aside, this is a MAGA party now,” Biden added. “These guys are a different breed of cat.”

Biden stated that Republicans who know better don’t act, because they are aware they will be primaryried. This refers to primaries or the party nomination contests.

Trump-criticism could lead to Republican officials being criticized and potentially losing their seats in the primary to a challenger.
