Investing.com – U.S. stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the , and sectors led shares lower.

The index dropped 2.82% at the close of NYSE. It also fell 2.77% to a new one-month low.

The best performers of the session on the were Procter & Gamble Company (NYSE:), which fell 0.84% or 1.36 points to trade at 161.25 at the close. Meanwhile, Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:) fell 0.99% or 1.82 points to end at 181.54 and International Business Machines (NYSE:) was down 1.14% or 1.60 points to 138.25 in late trade.

These were the worst performers of the session. Caterpillar Inc (NYSE :), fell 6.55% or 15 points to trade at 216.30 by the closing Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE: ) fell 5.64%, or 3.10 points, to finish at 51.91 Nike Inc (NYSE:), was lower by 4.72%, or 6.39 points, to 129.07.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were Kimberly-Clark Corporation (NYSE:) which rose 8.13% to 138.51, SVB Financial Group (NASDAQ:) which was up 7.53% to settle at 541.04 and Twitter Inc (NYSE:), which gained 3.93% and closed at 48.93

They were among the most disappointing. HCA Holdings Inc (NYSE.) fell 21.82% to 21.64 in late trading. Gap Inc (NYSE.) lost 17.98% and settled at 11.72 Intuitive Surgical Inc (NASDAQ:) The close was 14.34% lower at 252.34

These were the top performers in the NASDAQ Composite Vallon Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ) rose by 100.89%, to 2.27 Blueknight Energy Partners LP LLC (NASDAQ :), which was up 38.18% and settled at 4.56 Cyngn Inc (NASDAQ) gained 26.89% and closed at 2.69

Dogness International Corp. A (NASDAQ :), which fell 46.00% at 3.51 in late-trade, Fednat Holding Co.(NASDAQ 🙂 that lost 26.48% at 0.53, and Scynexis Inc. (2NASDAQ :), which dropped 25.80% at 2.33 by the end.

On the New York Stock Exchange, falling stocks outnumbered those that advanced by 2724, 484, and 86 ending unchanged.

Gap Inc (NYSE 🙂 shares plunged to 52-week highs. They fell 17.98% (2.57 to 11.72). Intuitive Surgical Inc’s shares fell to 52 weeks lows (NASDAQ:) losing 14.34% (42.23% to 252.34). Blueknight Energy Partners LP LLC, (NASDAQ:), shares rose to new 3-year highs. They gained 38.18% (1.26 to 4.56). Fednat Holding Co. (NASDAQ:), shares fell to their lowest levels in over a decade, falling 26.48% (0.19 to 0.53). Scynexis Inc shares (NASDAQ:), fell to their lowest level in three years, losing 25.80% (0.81 to 2.33).

The , which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 24.38% to 28.21 a new 1-month high.

For June delivery, Gold Futures fell 0.71% to $1.934.30 a troy an ounce. Other commodities traded included Crude oil, which fell by 2.60 or 2.51% to $101.19/barrel, and the June Brent Oil contract, which fell to $105.60/barrel.

EUR/USD was stable at 1.08 by 0.34%, while USD/JPY rose 0.07 to 128.49.

At 101.11, the US Dollar Index Futures rose 0.49%.
