Germany must support Ukraine without endangering its own security

BERLIN, (Reuters) – Germany must help Ukraine win its war against Russia without putting its security at risk and NATO’s ability to defend itself. This was the statement of Christian Lindner from Finance Ministry.
Lindner spoke at Berlin’s party conference, saying that “we must do all we can to help Ukraine win.”
He said, “But it is not impossible… should be done pragmatically and rapidly together with our European counterparts.”
Lindner indicated that he supports Ukraine using heavy weapons but stressed that Germany cannot be part of war.
Lindner stated that Ukraine needs military support and heavy weapons to win.
He rejected the criticism directed at Olaf Scholz, Chancellor of Germany, for his apparent unwillingness to supply heavy battle weapons such as tanks or howitzers.
Lindner declared that Olaf Scholz “is a responsible leader, who weighs everything carefully and takes decisions on this basis.”
Scholz stated that NATO should avoid direct military confrontations with Russia, as this could result in a third world conflict.
