(Reuters.) – Children and women are trapped in a Mariupol giant steel plant. This is one of the few remaining Ukrainian defenders for the port city. They released a short video on Saturday saying they want out as fast as possible and that food is running out.

The Azov battalion was created by pro-Ukrainian Nationalists in 2014. It later became a regiment of the Ukrainian National Guard and was prominent in Mariupol’s defense.

Reuters couldn’t independently confirm the date or location of the filming. One person in the video says that April 21 is the date.

This video features soldiers serving food to the civilians living in shelters at Azovstal.

One woman with a baby said that the people living in the plant ran out of food. She said, “We want to go home.”

Russian forces attacked the Azovstal compound with air strikes, trying to storm it. This was despite Moscow having said earlier this week it would not try to seize the Azovstal plant. According to Ukrainian authorities, more than 1000 civilians and troops are defending the Azovstal complex.

The video shows a boy who, unidentified, said that he wanted to leave after having been in the factory for 2 months.

“I would like to see the sun, but it is dim in my house. We can all live peacefully when our homes are built. He said, “Let Ukraine win. Ukraine is our home.”

Video of women in uniforms featuring the Azovstal design was shown. Reuters confirmed that they were matched in files.

A woman claimed that she was hiding in the steelworks since February 27, which is just days after Russia invaded Ukraine.

We are the relatives of workers. She said that this place seemed safest at the time she arrived. “This was also when the fire destroyed our home and made it uninhabitable.”

Russian forces bombarded and have repeatedly been invading Mariupol during the conflict, leaving the city, which is home to more that 400,000 residents, in complete ruin. An aide to Mariupol’s mayor stated that a second attempt was made to evacuate civilians but failed Saturday.
