KABUL (Reuters – Afghanistan’s Acting Defence Minister said Sunday that the Taliban Administration would not tolerate any “invasions” by its neighours, after protesting against Pakistani airstrikes.

These comments were made after Pakistan was blamed by the Taliban for its airstrikes, which officials claim killed many people in Kunar and Khost.

Pakistan denied any involvement in strikes inside Afghanistan’s borders.

Mullah Muhammad Yaqoob was the acting Afghan defense minister. He made the remarks at a Kabul ceremony to mark the 20th anniversary of the murder of Mullah Omar (the Taliban founder).

“We cannot tolerate the invasion. That attack has been tolerated. “We tolerated it because of our national interests. Next time, we may not tolerate it,” said he.

When asked about Yaqoob’s remarks, the spokesperson for Pakistan’s foreign ministry said that Pakistan wanted to engage with Afghanistan for peace.

Afghanistan and Pakistan are brothers. Both countries view terrorism as a grave threat. They have also suffered long-term consequences. According to the spokesperson, “Pakistan and Afghanistan are brotherly countries.”

Last week, the Taliban’s foreign ministry summoned Pakistan’s ambassador in protest at the strike. Officials in Pakistan said that 36 victims were killed by Pakistan military helicopters.

According to the head of United Nations’ children’s agency in Afghanistan, 20 children died in airstrikes on Khost and Kunar in April 16, according to reports.

Numerous standoffs have occurred along Pakistan’s 2,600km (1,615 mile) border since the Taliban seized Afghanistan in August. This was drawn by British colonial rulers but is disputed and claimed by Kabul.

In recent months, Pakistani military operations have intensified along Afghanistan’s border. They are becoming increasingly frustrated with the ongoing militant attacks.
