Orrin Hatch, longest-serving Republican U.S. senator, dies at 88

Orrin G. HatchThe Hatch Foundation reported that, a long-serving Republican senator from Utah, has died at the Hatch Foundation’s Salt Lake City residence.

Hatch was elected to the Senate after serving 42 years. This makes him the Republican U.S. senator with the longest tenure.

Matt Sandgren (executive director of Hatch Foundation) stated in an interview that “Senator OrrinG. Hatch epitomized the American Dream.” statement. He was the son of a plaster lather and a carpenter, but he survived the hardships of youth to become an American Senator.

Hatch also was the longest serving senator from Utah. Hatch was elected for the first time in 1976. announced his retirement in January 2018.

In making his announcement, he referenced his amateur career as a boxer and said in a video that “Every great fighter knows when it’s time to put the gloves down.” For me, that moment is quickly approaching.

Hatch was born at Homestead Park in Pennsylvania in 1934.

Hatch was raised in “a ramshackle” house during the Great Depression. Hatch served as the Chairman of three Senate Committees and made major policy decisions.

Hatch received a Bachelor’s degree in History from Brigham Young University, in 1959. He then moved to Utah in 1969.

Elaine and his six children, as well as Elaine, are still with him. The Hatch Foundation stated that funeral arrangements would be made at a later time.

This breaks my heart. Abby, and I were so thankful for the chance to be with such a remarkable public servant. Cox wrote, “He was always so kind, generous with his time, and his wisdom.”
