(Reuters) – Amazon.com Inc. (NASDAQ:) employees will vote Monday on unionization of a second New York City borough warehouse. This is to help the organization’s efforts to organize.

Employees of the LDJ5 sortation facility are considering joining the Amazon Labor Union (ALU), a group headed by ex-workers in warehouses. JFK8 is a bigger facility and recently approved the ALU membership. This will create Amazon’s first organized workplace.

A second victory in elections would show the ALU’s capacity to organize more facilities for Amazon, America’s second-largest private employer. The win could encourage other organizing efforts by companies throughout the country.

According to labor groups, Amazon employees from over 100 U.S. workites expressed interest in joining the union.

Losing would indicate the difficult road ahead. Amazon has challenged the JFK8 vote in front of the U.S. National Labor Relations Board. Workers have been told by the company that unions can’t guarantee higher pay and benefits.

Company claims it supports workers voices and that JFK8 was depressed by its rivals. All allegations have been dismissed by ALU.

Sanders stated that the struggle centers on whether or not we keep having an economy where billionaires are richer and the middle class shrinks. Or whether an economy works for everyone.

Derrick Palmer, the union’s vice president of organizing, said: “Now that we’ve won, I’m just glad that everyone’s finally waking up and realizing the power that we have.”

It is anticipated that the public vote count will begin on May 2.
