Privacy is at risk: We must work for a decentralized future

If you’re into cryptocurrency or blockchain, there’s a good chance I don’t have to spell out the benefits of decentralization. You’re a first-generation user of a technology that will increasingly define the future of the internet, and you have Web3’s world premiere: Front-row seats.

The internet’s use and control were always as centralized as we see now. Under the guidance of the United States Department of Defense in the beginning, there was no need for the internet to depend on one central computer. Is it possible to take down the main node in case of a terrorist attack? Each network component had to be capable of communicating with one another without the need to depend on any single computer. This would reduce vulnerabilities.

David ChaumHe was one of the first to use blockchain technology. Known as “The Godfather of Privacy,” Chaum first proposed a solution for protecting metadata with mix-cascade networks in 1979. His 1982 dissertation from the University of California at Berkeley was the first to propose a blockchain protocol. Chaum created eCash in 1992, which was the first cryptocurrency. He also contributed numerous times to the development of secure voting systems throughout the 1990s. Chaum founded Elixxir and Praxxis, today combining his years of research in cryptography with privacy and security to provide state-of the-art blockchain solutions.
