Stripe allows creators to get paid in cryptocurrency on TwitterFintech giant Stripe recently teamed up with Twitter (NYSE:) to introduce crypto payments to the social network’s creator community. USDC (a stablecoin linked to the U.S. dollars) will be the sole crypto option at the moment. Twitter had previously introduced monetization features like ‘Super Follow’, a paid ticket system for ‘Space Events’ and ‘Tips’. The new system will only be available to a select number of Twitter creators during the initial testing phase. Payments can be made through the Polygon network which is connected to.
Users will have the ability to embed Stripe Connect in their shops and websites. Once funds are received, they will also be able choose to either store it on Polygon or to exchange it for another cryptocurrency.
A New Vision Prompted By Growing Crypto Needs
Stripe was influenced by the Web3 hype in 2021 and their view on cryptocurrency in general. Stripe also saw the need to create a Web3-dedicated team to deliver crypto solutions to customers. Numerous major payment processors, including PayPal, MasterCard and Visa (NYSE:), have made crypto-related moves.
Although it was almost 4 years since the company dropped Bitcoin, Stripe announced recently that they will reintegrate Bitcoin and add more cryptocurrencies to their platform by 2022. In 2018, Stripe had expressed concerns about Bitcoin’s adaptability in everyday transactions and cited the lack of interest in crypto payments shown by their customers. However, the tables have now turned: “We’re focused on helping creators connect with their audiences in new ways,” said Esther Crawford, a representative of Stripe. Stripe plans to make this feature more accessible in 120 countries before the end the year.
