WASHINGTON (Reuters] – The U.S. effort to arm Ukraine is supported by 73% of Americans, which represents the highest level support for U.S. military operations since February when Russia invaded neighboring countries.
Two-day polling was held as the United States (and its allies) increase plans to supply heavy weapons to Ukraine, and as senior Russian officials warned the West not to underestimate the increased risk of nuclear conflict.
An earlier Reuters/Ipsos survey, which was conducted just before the global furore over the killing of civilians in Kiev, showed that 68% supported shipping arms to Ukraine.
According to the latest poll, both Democrats and Republicans support U.S. sanctions against Russia. They also say that they favor candidates for the Nov. 8 congressional elections who support military assistance for Ukraine.
Increasing tensions between Washington, Moscow and Washington are fueling fears that Russia might try to influence those elections.
The poll revealed that half of Americans worry Russia might try to influence congressional elections via misinformation or online propaganda.
A poll has shown that Americans rates President Joe Biden’s reaction to Ukraine’s crisis as better than his handling other issues, including high energy costs and the economy. The Democratic Party’s general low popularity could indicate that it may lose control of Congress in November.
According to Reuters/Ipsos, 46% Americans approve of Biden’s actions on Ukraine. This includes 70% of Democrats as well as 24% of Republicans. Biden received 37% of the vote on economy. Biden was only approved 32% for the fuel and gas price, which has risen in part due to concerns over Russia’s large oil exports.
Another Reuters/Ipsos survey was conducted on Tuesday. It showed that 42% Americans disapprove of Biden’s presidency, which is near his lowest point.
The Reuters/Ipsos surveys were carried out online in English, and across the United States. Both polls gathered responses of 1,005 adults. Each had credibility intervals (measures of precision) of approximately 4 percentage points.
