Investing.com – Australia stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the , and sectors led shares lower.

The Sydney close saw the stock market drop 0.78%, to a 1-month low.

Whitehaven Coal Ltd. ASX:, which gained 5.45% (or 0.24 points) to trade at 4.64 by the closing of session 2, were the top performers. Downer Edi Ltd. (ASX:), which gained 4.72%, or 0.24 point to trade at 5.33. Champion Iron Ltd Late trade saw the ASX rise 3.39%, or 0.23 point to 7.02.

These were the worst performers of the session. Credit Corp Group Ltd (ASX) fell 9.5% or 2.81 points, to trade at 26.77 by the close. Pointsbet Holdings Ltd (ASX.:) lost 8.61% (or 0.26 points) to close at 2.76. EML Payments Ltd. was also down at ASX., dropping 5.71% (or 0.10 points) to 1.57.

The Sydney Stock Exchange saw falling stocks surpass advancing stock by 1001 to 464, and ended the day unchanged at 383

Pointsbet Holdings Ltd. (ASX) shares fell to 52 week lows. They lost 8.61%, or 0.26 to 2.76. EML Payments Ltd. shares (ASX:), fell to 52 week lows, falling 5.71% (0.10 to 1.57).

The , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was up 5.08% to 17.16 a new 1-month high.

For June delivery, Gold Futures fell 0.15% to $1,901.25 an ounce. In commodities trading, crude oil rose 0.69 percent or $0.70 in June to reach $102.40 per barrel. The July Brent oil contract advanced 0.79 or 0.83 to settle at $105.44 per barrel.

While AUD/USD was steady at 0.42 to 0.72, AUD/JPY rose by 0.92% and climbed to 91.42.

US Dollar Index Futures were up 0.3% at 102.63
