MILAN (Reuters – The Italian Benetton family is a major shareholder in Generali (BIT) and has decided to join other investors who want a change in control of the company, according to a source familiar with the matter.

According to a source, the Benettons own around 4% in Generali via their holding company Edizione. They want reconciliation and dialogue between investors and Generali’s management, as well as with its shareholders, after Friday’s shareholder vote.

Francesco Gaetano Caltagirone of Rebel Generali and Leonardo Del Vecchio are proposing a new candidate to replace Philippe Donnet as CEO. The board plans to appoint him for a third time.
