WASHINGTON, (Reuters) –The U.S. President Joe Biden welcomed Wednesday’s release of Trevor Reed, an American citizen held in Russia since 2019 and has been released.

Today, Trevor Reed is home and we celebrate with his family. Biden released a statement saying that Trevor Reed, an ex-Marine, was freed from Russian detention.

Reed (Texas), aged 30, was sentenced in 2019 for endangering lives of two officers during drunkenness while on a Moscow visit. He was called the “theater of absurd” in America.

According to the U.S. President, he shared this news with Reed’s parents (NASDAQ:), Joey Reed and Paula Reed. They have been pressing the administration for help in their son’s care.

They thanked Biden for his help in freeing their son and said that “our family had been living a nightmare.”

Russia’s foreign ministry announced Wednesday that it has traded Trevor Reed (a former U.S Marine in Russian prison) for Konstantin Yaroshenko. Yaroshenko was currently serving a 20 year sentence in the United States.

Biden declined to comment on specific details, but he said that the negotiations to bring Trevor home were difficult and that he would not be taking lightly.
