Indian banks approached The National Payments Corporation of India, (NPCI), to get clarifications about crypto transactions using United Payments. Interface (NASDAQ:) (UPI).

This issue comes directly after the Coinbase(NASDAQ:) disaster, where the NPCI claimed that it had no knowledge of any partnerships with cryptocurrency exchanges.

National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) would like clarify our position regarding recent media reports that alleged that Cryptocurrencies were being purchased using UPI.

Banks want to keep conducting transactions despite these difficulties, but they still need the help of the national organisation to find an alternate solution.

Indian banks are seeking to establish the National Payments Corporation of India, which oversees all digital settlement and payment systems in India. They are demanding clear instruction on how to use the Unified Payment Interface for crypto transactions.

UPI was raised by several banks, according to an investigation. Some of the ones that raised complaints are NPCI’s shareholders, including financial institutions like the State Bank of India, Union Bank of India, HDFC Bank, HSBC Limited, and Citi.

The banks are optimistic that the discussions will lead to official guidance. However, a representative of the NPCI claimed that there is no immediate plan to issue any circular.

According to the spokesperson for NPCI,

Crypto industry lawyers will challenge any official circular aimed at banning UPI in cryptos and VDAs. They did so previously with the April 2018 ban from Reserve Bank of India.
