White House vows to press for release of Paul Whelan -Breaking

WASHINGTON, (Reuters) – The White House pledged Wednesday that it would continue pressing for Paul Whelan’s unconditional release. Whelan is a former Marine who was imprisoned by Russia and charged with spying.

Whelan is also an American citizen and holds Canadian, British, Canadian, as well Irish passports. Whelan was sentenced in June 2020 to 16 years for espionage. Jen Psaki, White House Press Secretary, stated that the United States will continue to push for Whelan’s unconditional release.
