Investing.com – American Electric On Thursday, Power (NASDAQ:), reported that the first quarter exceeded analysts’ expectations and that revenue was higher than expected.

American Electric Power posted earnings per share (EPS) of $1.22 for revenue $4.6B. Investing.com polled analysts and predicted an EPS of 1.21 for revenue of $4.57B.

American Electric Power shares fell 26.01% over the course of the year. This is still 5.04% below its 52 week peak of $104.81, which was set on April 6. They are under-performing the S&P 500 which is down 12.22% from the start of the year.

American Electric Power is following other Utilities Sector earnings this month

American Electric Power’s April 21 earnings beat was achieved by NextEra Energy, who reported an EPS of 0.74 per share on $2.89B in revenue. NextEra Energy forecasts an EPS at $0.7142 with revenue of $5.19B.

Southern exceeded expectations Thursday, posting a $0.97 EPS on revenues of $6.65B. This compares to a forecast for $0.8956 on $5.98B.
