Denmark the first country to halt its Covid vaccination program

Denmark was the first to stop the Covid vaccinations. The country said it did so because the virus is under control.

The Danish Health Authority released a statement on Wednesday stating that “Spring is here, vaccination coverage in Denmark has increased, and the epidemic has reversed.”

It stated that the National Board of Health had ended the wide-ranging vaccination campaign against Covid-19 in this season. The National Board of Health said people won’t be invited for vaccinations beginning May 15. However, everyone will still be able finish their vaccine course.

The Covid vaccination program in Denmark began shortly after Christmas 2020. The health authority reported that 4.8 million citizens had been vaccinated and over 3.6million people have received a booster shot.

The virus has infected many people since its dominant variant, the Omicron, was discovered, the agency said. This means that immunity levels are very high.

Bolette Soborg from the National Board of Health, stated “We’re in a good spot.”

“We are in good control of this epidemic. It seems that it is subsiding.” Rates of admission [to hospital]We expect that they will fall quickly and remain stable. We are completing the Mass Vaccination Program against Covid-19.

Soborg said that anyone can get vaccinated in spring or summer and that all locations will be open.

The immunization of people at high risk for Covid, including those aged 40 or pregnant and unvaccinated women, was recommended. He said, “We continue to recommend you complete your initiated vaccination course.”

Resumption of vaccinations likely

Denmark has decided to end its vaccination program. This comes amid a mixed Covid environment around the globe. Europe and the U.S. have removed most of the Covid restrictions. However, China still has lockdowns (or is considering them) as the virus continues its spread in large cities like Shanghai or Beijing.

Although the Danish Health and Medicines Authority isn’t proposing to scrap its vaccination program, it said they will most likely have to continue to administer Covid-19 vaccines in fall due to the fact that the virus continues to evolve.

As the pandemic has entered its third anniversary, many new varieties have appeared. These new variants have reduced the effectiveness of Covid vaccines, which were created in record speed in 2020. However, the West-approved shots are still effective in preventing severe infection and hospitalization from Covid-19.

Denmark’s healthcare experts are likely to examine the timing of vaccinations and who needs them.

According to the Danish Health and Medicines Authority, it will continue to monitor the spread of the epidemic and can resume vaccination efforts if necessary.
