BERLIN (Reuters – German inflation is expected to stabilise around 7.6% in April. This was based on data from five states, and according to analyst predictions for Federal data that will be released later in the day.

Preliminary data for Saxony (North Rhine-Westphalia), Bavaria/Hesse, Baden-Wuerttemberg, and Bavaria showed an annual consumer price inflation (CPI) of 7.0% to 7.9%.

March’s EU-harmonized inflation figure (HICP), 7.6% was recorded, while the CPI was 7.3%.

According to Reuters, analysts saw an April HICP reading overall of 7.6%. The CPI rate was at 7.2%.

The rising cost of energy has been a problem. March producer price – which is the first to reflect the war with Ukraine – saw the greatest year-on–year rise since records began in 1949. That’s bad news for consumer inflation.

According to Tuesday’s economic ministry report, the German government expects an inflation rate 6.1% by 2022, and 2.8% next Year. The reason is the effect of rising energy prices in Europe’s largest economy.
