Southern Earnings, Revenue Beat in Q1 -Breaking

Southern, Investing.com reported Thursday that the first quarter beat analyst forecasts with revenue surpassing expectations.

Southern reported earnings per share at $0.97 for revenue $6.65B. Investing.com polled analysts to predict EPS of $0.8956 based on $5.98B in revenue.

Southern shares fell 17.21% over the first year. This is still 4.86% below its 52-week peak of $77.24, set on April 21. They are under-performing the S&P 500 which is down 12.22% from the start of the year.

Southern earnings follow other Utilities majors this month

Southern’s update follows NextEra Energy’s April 21 earnings beat, reporting EPS at $0.74 per share on $2.89B in revenue. NextEra Energy had forecast EPS at $0.7142 with revenue of $5.19B.

Iberdrola SA disappointed with Wednesday’s first quarter EPS at $0.6647 on revenues of $12.78B. That compares with the $11.37B forecasted for EPS at $0.7822.
