(Reuters) – A Colorado resident has been diagnosed with H5N1 bird flu, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

According to the CDC, this person was positive for avian flu A (H5) virus. He also participated in culling poultry suspected of having H5N1 bird influenza.

The agency stated that “This case doesn’t change the human-risk assessment for the general population, which CDC considers low.”

The patient complained of fatigue and was able to recover after a short time.

H5N1 viruses have been found in U.S. commercial and backyard birds in 29 states and in wild birds in 34 states since the CDC started monitoring for illness among people exposed to the viruses in late 2021.

“CDC has monitored the health of over 2,500 people who have been exposed to H5N1 virus. This is the first case to be found. The CDC stated that other people who were involved in Colorado’s culling operations have also tested negative for the H5 virus. However, they will be retested because of the need to exercise caution.

The CDC stated that this second case of human infection with the H5 virus is being reported globally. In Britain, the first H5 virus-related case was made in December 2021.
