REUTERS/Andressa Anholete/File PhotoSAO PAULO (Reuters – Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro declared Saturday that the planned demonstrations for Sunday were not to demonstrate, but “the desire that everybody abides by Constitution.”
These demonstrations mark the latest development in conflict between Bolsonaro’s Supreme Court and Bolsonaro, who recently pardoned an ally and federal congressman sentenced by the court to almost nine years imprisonment.
The planned demonstration and pardon are likely to increase tensions between judiciary and executive in an election year.
Bolsonaro provided instructions to those who participated in Saturday’s demonstration, as requested by his supporters.
He said this in his speech to the crowd at an opening ceremony of an agricultural fair, in Uberaba in Minas Gerais.
Bolsonaro accused the justices, specifically Alexandre de Moraes. He claimed that they had disrespected the Contitution by their decisions. He also attacked the electoral court and electronic voting system that will be presidering over the October presidential election.
