ATHENS, (Reuters) – Greece has lifted COVID-19 flight restrictions for domestic and foreign flights on Sunday, according to its civil aviation authority. This announcement comes ahead of summer tourism season, which officials believe will bring back revenues from the recent pandemic.

Before flying in and out of this country, travelers had to present a vaccine certificate or prove that they were free from the coronavirus.

According to civil aviation authorities, crew members and passengers can wear only a mask from May 1st.

The Greek Orthodox Easter was April 24th, and the summer tourist season usually starts after that. This year’s high visitor numbers are predicted to bring Greece 80% of its 2019 revenues. It was an unprecedented year, even before the pandemic stopped travel.

Because of the declining incidences, retail outlets and restaurants returned to full capacity Sunday. This allowed customers to enter with no proof of vaccination. However, they were required to have a mask.

So far, Greece has recorded 3,323,922 deaths and 29,153 cases from COVID.
