Investing.com — Chinese electric vehicle companies NIO, XPeng, and Li Auto said that supply chain issues resulting from the ongoing COVID situation in the country impacted deliveries in April.
Nio Inc.’s(NYSE) April deliveries suffered a severe hit because of COVID lockdowns by China. NIO shipped 5,074 cars in April 2022. This is almost half the number of vehicles delivered in March, which was 9,985 less than the previous month. It also decreased from 7,102 cars delivered in April 2021.
NIO reported that vehicle production and deliveries were affected by supply chain problems and constraints resulting from the COVID-19 strains. Slowly, vehicle production has begun to recover.
NIO stock increased 2% during Monday’s trading.
XpengThe (NYSE:) April 2022 delivery of 9,002 vehicles was 75% higher than the previous year. It was however significantly less than the 15,414 vehicles delivered in April 2022.
“The company is actively navigating through the COVID situation which is affecting overall supply chain manufacturing and transportation automobiles in China,” XPeng said.
XPeng shares opened lower than expected, but have since risen 0.8%.
The April issue of Li Auto(NASDAQ) delivered 4,167 Li ONEs. This is a decrease from March’s 11,034 Li ONEs. This is lower than the 5,539 Li ONEs that were delivered in April 2021.
“The COVID-19 resurgence in the Yangtze Delta region continues to cause severe industry-wide disruptions in supply chain, logistics and production since late March,” said Yanan Shen, co-founder and president of Li Auto.
He stated that several of the suppliers were unable to produce or deliver their goods during the month. It was impossible for them to keep production going after they exhausted all of their parts stock.
“At present, we are working with our supply chain partners to restore production capacity, aiming to shorten the delivery waiting time for Li ONE users, while meeting all pandemic prevention and containment requirements,” stated Shen.
Li Auto shares are up 2.4% Monday.
