SEATTLE, (Reuters) – Seattle has welcomed the first ever permanent NFT art museum. The aim of this new institution is to show that blockchain-based art can be seen from a different perspective.

The popularity of non-fungible tokens has increased dramatically in recent years. NFT art is selling for many millions. Blockchains are a digital record that keeps track of all transactions on connected computers.

On January 14, 2014, the museum was opened. It has served as a platform for artists, creators, collectors, and others to showcase their NFTs in an actual setting. The museum also aims to educate people about this new digital art market.

Jennifer Wong is a Seattle NFT Museum co-founder and curator.

Maksim Surguy, a local digital artist, attended the opening ceremony of the museum’s “Climate Conversation” exhibition. His designs can be purchased as NFTs online but also printed in paper form.

Surguy said that a prior limitation existed about digital or physical art. He also stated how there was a limit on who could see it or who they could own it. Surguy works in Seattle’s technology industry. Surguy started exploring crypto-based art one year ago.

A March report by Research and Markets, an Irish firm, states that the market for NFTs worldwide is set to reach over $21 Billion in 2022.

Peter Hamilton, cofounder of the museum said that an NFT was essentially a contract that signifies ownership of an asset. The tokens… basically signify that this serial number is associated with the piece of artwork, so if you possess this token you can claim it as your own.

Programming is planned for the museum throughout the year.

Hamilton said, “I can’t stress enough how vital the educational aspect of this museum” We’re working to help folks understand the importance of NFTs and pull the curtains back a bit about what blockchain really is and its utility.
