SpaceX plans to expand its Starbase solar farm in Boca Chica (Texas), according to reports. documents obtained by CNBC from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

FWS documents (also known as a draft biologic conference and opinion, BCO) reveal that SpaceX plans to increase the size of the on-site solar farms by approximately 1.7 acres. That’s a total of 7.1 acres. SpaceX has already begun leveling and clearing the area for construction.

Elon MuskThe space company’s already using solar panels and large batteries at South Texas vertical rocket facility to generate electricity for its day-to-day operations. A natural gas power plant is also operated by the company in Boca Chica.

As of late 2021, the solar farm there covered 5.4 acres and supplied approximately 1 MW of power, with a 3.87 MW-hour battery for energy storage according to the BCO.

According to documents, expansion is underway. Construction will take approximately two years. It would provide 750 kilowatts more power, for an energy total of 1.6 megawatts. There’s also an extra battery system that can store as much as 8 megawatt-hours.

These panels also show that SpaceX uses Trina Solar solar panels at its launch site, rather than the photovoltaics made by American manufacturers. Tesla,Musk is also the leader of both the electric car and energy businesses.

The batteries for the solar farm are Tesla’s Power Pack energy storage systems, however, which are geared for businesses and utilities. Tesla has a Powerwall battery for residential use and a Megapack energy storage system that can be used to store large amounts of energy on a grid scale.

It was during the first quarter of 2022The record-breaking quarter of Tesla’s overall business was achieved with $616 million in revenue and $688 million revenue for the energy division.

Tesla’s solar deployments fell by almost half to 48 MW during the same time period in 2021. The battery business was able to make up some of the difference. In the first three months 2022 Tesla installed 846 MWh lithium-ion battery energy storage systems. This is a 90% increase over the previous year.

Collaboration between Elon Musk’s companies is not newHowever, it has slightly increased over time due to the number.

CNBC reported that SpaceX has a board of directors, including a past CEO and a present member. SpaceX purchased Tesla in 2020 around $4 millionIncluding labor, worth of parts and energy systems from Tesla.
