(Reuters) – U.S. comedian Dave Chappelle was confronted during Tuesday’s show at Hollywood Bowl. This according to several U.S. media outlets.

A video circulated on social media showing a man running onto the stage, tackling Chappelle during his performance. According to the video, security immediately took away the comedian.

Reuters couldn’t immediately confirm the footage.

According to organizers, Chappelle performed at an 11-day comedy festival called Netflix is A Joke.

Last year, some criticised Chappelle’s Netflix comedy special “The Closer”, which was seen as mocking transgender people. It was seen by supporters of Chappelle as an outrage against cancel culture.

Onstage, the altercation took place a month following Will Smith’s slap on comedian Chris Rock at Oscars. Rock was then banned for 10 consecutive years.

An ABC report claims that Rock, who had performed earlier in the evening, came onto the stage moments after the attack to joke with Chappelle: “Was it Will Smith?”

According to the ABC report, Chappelle repeatedly asked security for the removal of the man from the stage.

Brianna Sacks (a BuzzFeed News reporter) claimed that she was present at the show and said the man who charged at Chappelle got kicked at least by 10 people.

“The altercation occurred just when Chappelle’s performance ended and later the actor Jamie Foxx went on stage after the incident looking absolutely shocked,” she tweeted.

In an email to Reuters, a representative from the Hollywood Bowl stated that the incident is under “an active investigation” but that they were unable to provide further comment.

Reuters reached out to the Los Angeles Police Department for clarification but they did not respond immediately. Unable to reach Chappelle immediately for comment,
