WASHINGTON (Reuters] – The latest episode in a long series that turned Republicans against Madison Cawthorn from North Carolina, a 28-second clip showing a naked young male gyrating with someone in bed in squeals of laughter is a grainy video.

Cawthorn wasn’t denied by the group which uploaded the video. Thursday’s attack by the 26-year-old political rookie was characterized as “hit” and “blackmail” by him. He claimed it shows him having fun with a friend many years ago.

This was in addition to other events that led Republicans like Kevin McCarthy (the top Republican in Congress) to leave him.

Cawthorn claimed that he was invited by Washington leaders to attend a Cocaine-fueled Washington Sex orgy. He also attempted to bring a gun on an airplane twice and called Volodymyr Zelenskiy, the Ukrainian president, a “thug” during a Russian invasion.

“It’s not any one thing. It’s all of it,” North Carolina U.S. Senator Tom Tillis is active in opposition to Cawthorn before a May 17 primary. He told Reuters.

Tillis who backed state senator Chuck Edwards’ Cawthorn challenge added, “I want better representation and better results for the people out there.”

Cawthorn won a Donald Trump-endorsed Republican Republican’s election in 2020 to become Congressman. He is the youngest member in Congress and has taken the pugilistic approach of the president to win his endorsement for 2022.

However, a Republican GOPAC Election Fund poll showed that Cawthorn lost its lead in the likely primary vote to 38% in April after being 49% ahead in March. Edwards support rose to 21% from just 14% in April. This poll is subject to a 4.9% error margin.

Video released this week by FireMadison.com by American Muckrakers PAC. They are dedicated to opposing Cawthorn. A wheelchair was also included in the scene, which Cawthorn can use nearby.

Tillis described it as “absurdly embarrassing.”

Cawthorn dismissed it on Twitter (NYSE :).

A new charge against me has been made. This video was taken years ago. I was playing crass and trying to be funny with a friend. It was a silly, joking act. Cawthorn posted the following: “I’m NOT backing down. “I promised you that there would be a drip drip program. The blackmail campaign will not win. We’ll.”

Cawthorn will be required to run in a June election, if he fails to win more than 30% of primary vote. According to polling, 31% of voters viewed Cawthorn favorably last month.

Jim Davis is a former Republican senator from the state of Texas who ran in Cawthorn’s 2020 election and ended up voting in his favor in the runoff election. They are all right.

Strategists and pollsters agree that there are risks of the attack backfiring by his opponents, as it could galvanize support for Cawthorn (a populist opposed to the Republican establishment).

Some Republican voters see the combative personalities of extremists like Trump, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, and U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene in their antidote against the liberal Democrats’ excesses.

Glen Bolger of Republican pollster Public Opinion Strategies, who also did two surveys on behalf Edwards’ campaign said that “it’s going to be very close elections.” He could possibly survive the self-inflicted wounds he has inflicted on himself. He’s now in serious political danger.”
