(Reuters) – Canada’s Enbridge Inc (NYSE:) Inc announced a 4.34% increase in its first quarter profit Friday. This was due to an increased demand for oil, which boosted pipeline operator’s shipping volumes.

Canada is the fourth largest crude oil producer in the world and Canada seeks ways to increase its pipeline usage amid rising U.S. LNG exports to Europe. This comes as Canada tries to reduce its dependency on Russian energy after its invasion of Ukraine.

Enbridge has been able to move around 20% of the U.S. gas and the majority of Canada’s crude oil exports into the United States thanks to this.

Enbridge stated that it moved 3,000,000 barrels per day (bpd), on its Mainline network in the first quarter. This is more than 27.5 million less than a year ago.

In separate news, Humble Midstream announced it was developing a low carbon hydrogen and ammonia production facility and export plant with the energy portfolio company. This will be at Ingleside Energy Center, Texas.

Calgary-based firm’s adjusted earnings rose from C$1.63 trillion (81 Canadian cents/share) to C$1.73 billion ($1.33billion) in the year prior to that time.
