Sunshine Tour: African Top Golfers Compete for BTC Prizes

At the conclusion of 2022, the best European and African golfers will receive huge (BTC) rewards. The most popular golfing event in South Africa, and indeed the continent in general, has scored a new sponsorship deal with cryptocurrency platform ‘Luno’.

Everyone’s a Winner

It is already an established player on the African market and has set up a prize of 500,000 rands in Bitcoin (BTC) for the winning season. That’s $31,355 in USD. Additionally, silver and bronze medalists can also receive rewards in the amount of 300,000 rand each.

Participants in the Sunshine Tour receive a reward of 1,000 rand (roughly $62.5 USD) to help them discover blockchain technology. They will then be kept in the Luno app.

Regular Collaboration between the Sports and Crypto Worlds

Already, crypto app Luno is attracting some interest among sports lovers. The crypto company ran a 2021 commercial featuring Rassie Erasmus (coach of South African rugby union and Rugby World Cup Champions). Because Luno emphasized education, the commercial was well received. With the assistance of Mr. Erasmus, the in-built portal helped people to buy and use BTC.

BTC adoption continues to grow across several major European soccer leagues as well as the popular UFC tournaments. And, of course, partnerships between crypto and sport are becoming more frequent. For instance, at the beginning of 2022, the legendary ‘Staples Center’ in Los Angeles was renamed to the ‘Crypto.com Arena’.

As was wisely said by Marius Reitz, the general manager of Luno Africa: “Golfers think differently, having their own way of looking at risk and reward – each and every shot they play they have to take calculated risks. It’s the same with crypto.” It seems that this kind of like-mindedness is about to bear fruit, and we’re sure to see more collaboration between major sports and crypto companies in the near future.
