Investing.com — Technology firm Vuzix Corp (NASDAQ:) said Friday that it has received additional follow-on orders from three defense contractors.

According to the company that supplies smart glasses and Augmented Reality technology, these orders are mostly second and third round orders of waveguide-based products. This allows them to “continue their progress towards anticipated volume commercial rollouts.”

Waveguide by Vizix is Vizix smart glass technology. It takes digital images of projected objects and relays them directly to the eye.

Vuzix stated that it has five aerospace and defense companies currently working with Vuzix components in various stages of development.

Before a product design is finalized, the company will need to place orders with some contractors.

AR-based wearables will become increasingly important, especially in the defense sector. This is why our opportunities for OEMs in aerospace and defense are expanding. Paul Travers (President and CEO at Vuzix), stated that Vuzix is the US’s only manufacturer of waveguides.
