MEXICO CITY (Reuters – Chile’s LATAM Airlines was supported by a majority unsecured creditors as part of Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The airline announced Friday.

LATAM filed for bankruptcy in America in 2020, after it was hit by the travel-related coronavirus downturn. It said that around 65% of its lowest-ranking creditors had supported the plan. LATAM said the plan was fair and took into account all parties.

The Monday objection was filed by a group representing junior creditors to the restructuring plans. It called them “fundamentally inept” and claimed that it would wrongly favor shareholders, such as Delta Airlines (NYSE :). [L2N2WV2CM]

LATAM Airlines was established in 2012 after the merger of Chile’s LAN and Brazilian rival TAM. It has operating units in Chile and Brazil and Colombia, Colombia, Peru and Colombia. However, it still needs to include dissenting parties.

LATAM plans to raise $5.4billion through the plan. However, LATAM has faced objections from both a Chilean banking representative and U.S. Department of Justice’s bankruptcy watchdog.

In May 17, the lawyers for the airline asked a New York judge.

The airline released a statement saying that LATAM “continues to aim to finish the process and exit Chapter 11 in 2022.”
