(Reuters] – Rich Strike won Saturday’s Kentucky Derby with a stunning victory. Trainer Eric Reed was left utterly exhausted after the pair pulled off the largest upsets in Kentucky Derby history.

Ethereal Road scratched Friday and the 80-1 longshot was forced out of post 20. Churchill Downs (NASDAQ:).

However, Jockey Sonny Leon mastered the traffic. Rich Strike used an opening on the track to speed past Epicenter or Zandon.

Reed stated that Reed looked great Sunday morning.

“He was full last night, and looks really healthy.” “He gains weight with every race. I doubt we can get to the bottom.

Reed claimed that he fell after Rich Strike crossed over the wire, but that was all the Kentucky native had to say on Saturday.

Reed stated, “I couldn’t sleep last night.”

“At 4 AM this morning, I wondered if it was real or just a dream. When I arrived home, my children and their friends had brought champagne. They finally heard me at 2:20 a.m. I was forced to climb up for my bed.

“I kept on seeing him coming up to the rail in my mind.”

This win is the second largest upset in Derby history, after Donerail’s 1913 victory at 91-1.

Reed thought about quitting after having lost 23 horses in an accident six years earlier.

He won his first Run for the Roses and now he wants to do the Triple Crown again with the Preakness Stakes. However, Rich Strike would not be able to predict if Rich Strike will win given the quick turnaround.

He said, “That’s likely the plan… but) I don’t like to rush back.”

You will never get another like him in your lifetime, so you need to take care of him.”
