LONDON (Reuters), Russian satellite television menus changed Monday to reveal to Moscow viewers messages regarding the conflict in Ukraine.

These photos showed Moscow’s satellite TV menus during Victory Day. This was when Russia marked the 77th Anniversary of Soviet Union victory over Nazi Germany. Every channel displayed anti-war slogans.

A slogan said, “You have the blood from thousands of Ukrainians and hundreds upon dead children on you hands.”

“The authorities and TV are lying.” There is no need to go to war.

They appeared right before the Victory Day parade at Red Square, where President Vladimir Putin likened the conflict in Ukraine to the Soviet struggle to defeat Adolf Hitler.

The origin of the slogans was unclear. Interfax reported that the slogans were also seen on cable TV after being hacked.

Also, a Russian news website featured antiwar material which was strongly critical of Putin. However, it was not immediately obvious how these negative articles were created. These negative articles disappeared quickly.

Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, killing thousands and displacing millions of others. This has raised concerns about the worst confrontation between Russia, the United States and Russia since 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis.

Putin claims that the Ukraine “special military operation” is needed because Russia was using Ukraine as a threat to Russia. Moscow also had to protect Russian-speaking citizens from persecution.

According to him, the conflict will be seen as an inevitable confrontation against the United States.

NATO and Ukraine both deny that Russia was a threat. Ukraine claims it is fighting an empire-style land grab, and Putin’s accusations of genocide seem absurd.
