MEXICO CITY, (Reuters) – Monday’s praises for Cuba by Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, Mexico’s President, reaffirmed his desire to invite the Caribbean nation to the Summit of the Americas. He also stated that Mexico will be employing over 500 Cuban doctors.

Lopez Obrador was on a weekend trip to Cuba as part of his regional tour of Central America, the Caribbean and Latin America.

They are blessed with an extraordinary president. Lopez Obrador described Diaz-Canel as a honest, hardworking, and human president, who was elected in 2019.

Again, he stated that he would like all the countries of the region to be invited to the forthcoming Summit of the Americas hosted by the United States. It will take place in Los Angeles in June.

According to the U.S., Nicaraguan President Nicolas Maduro and Cuba are unlikely to be invited to attend the summit.

Lopez Obrador announced also that Mexico would hire over 500 Cuban doctors in order to make up the shortage of qualified medical personnel and will buy COVID-19 vaccinations from Cuba.

Cuban doctors had been previously employed to Mexico in response to the coronavirus epidemic. This led to criticism by members of Mexico’s opposition.

Lopez Obrador explained that doctors from Cuba will be coming to our country to train. This is because there are not enough doctors in the country.

Lopez Obrador, who announced that Mexico will now vaccinate children against COVID-19 in April, asked global health officials to send the necessary doses.

Mexico will acquire vaccines from Cuba in order to immunise children beginning at two years of age, he added.
