Tesla covers travel costs for healthcare including, reportedly, abortions

TeslaEmployees will be reimbursed for travel and lodging expenses to access health care services that are not available in their home state.
Tesla claimed that the policy has been in effect since 2021. It was published in Tesla’s 2021 impact reportFriday’s release. Although the report doesn’t mention “abortion”, the language of the policy appears to indicate that it does.
According to the report Tesla, has been offering since last year “An extended Safety Net program, and health insurance option that includes travel support and lodging support for individuals who might require healthcare services that are not available in their own state.”
It comes at a time when the Supreme Court is poised for Roe V. Wade to be overturned, which would protect the right to abortion throughout the U.S. Politico published a draft opinionThe majority would overturn the ruling, which has been in place for decades.
Roe V. Wade will not be overturned. It is up to the individual states to decide abortion access. Many states have begun to restrict access to abortion and others have “trigger laws” that could further limit access if Roe v. Wade is overturned.
The New York Times earlier reportedTesla policy, and that it included abortions. Tesla representatives were not available for comment immediately.
Tesla is located in Texas. Texas’ state legislature already makes access to abortion services hard. banning most after six weeks of pregnancy.
