JAKARTA, Reuters – Garuda Indonesia, a state-controlled carrier, has requested a Jakarta court extend its deadline for completing its debt restructuring process. The CEO of Garuda Indonesia said that the verification is not complete.

Garuda offered a 30 day extension of time to verify claims, and complete negotiations with creditors. This was stated by CEO Irfan Setiaputra during Tuesday’s creditors meeting at Central Jakarta Commercial Court.

“We are sure that this will not be the last extension we propose to the court,” said he, adding that negotiations were progressing in a positive direction with creditors.

For the entire court-led restructuring of the airline, the court gave a two month extension to the credit-saddled airline on March 21. This was until May 20.

Asri told reporters that creditors at the meeting agreed to the extension proposal.

However, the judges will have to make a decision on the proposed extension, as well as the length.

Garuda seeks to reduce its liabilities from $9.8 billion down to $3.7 billion through the restructuring of debt. One million claims have been filed by creditors against the airline, which is currently in financial trouble.
