Microsoft to help cover U.S. employees’ travel costs for abortion -Breaking

(Reuters) – Microsoft Corp (NASDAQ: ) announced Monday that the United States would expand its support for travel expense reimbursement and abortion services to employees.

Several companies, including Yelp (NYSE:) Inc, Citigroup (NYSE:), Levi Strauss & Co Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ) and (NYSE:) have pledged to pay for American workers who travel to other states for abortions.

Walmart (NYSE 🙂 Inc are two of the most prominent employers. Target Corporation (NYSE:) has not responded to the leaked draft of an opinion by Supreme Court that would reverse its 1973 abortion legalization decision in America last week.

This issue is now more urgent than ever, as 31 states have passed abortion bans for this year according to the policy analysis of Guttmacher Institute.

Microsoft “continues to do all we can under law to protect our employee’s rights and support employees” when it comes to accessing vital healthcare services in the United States. A Microsoft spokesperson stated this in a statement sent to Reuters.

“This assistance is now being extended to provide travel expense reimbursement for such and other services in areas where care is not available locally to an employee.”
