U.S. CPI, TerraUSD De-Pegged, Disney Earnings

Investing.com — In April, the U.S. will release inflation figures to help anyone looking for signs that U.S. price surges have halted. Stablecoin and Coinbase stock (NASDAQ:) are still in difficulty after a poor quarter for cryptocurrency trading. Although stocks are expected to open higher, investors should be reassured by the possibility of 75 basis point increases in U.S. rates. Walt Disney After the bell, (NYSE:) reports. 1. U.S. CPI data could show whether March marked the peak

The headline rate of is expected to have eased in April, as last year’s surge in prices for used cars starts to pass out of the year-on-year calculations.

The consensus forecast that the March stock market will fall to 8.1%, from 8.5% in March at 8:30 ET (1230 GMT) is likely to be true. If this happens there could be relief in equity and bond markets. But the most significant numbers are the monthly increases, with growth expected to pick up to 0.4% instead of 0.3%. Due to the modest fall in energy prices, an expected slowdown of 0.2% to 1.2% in overall growth is anticipated. This follows March’s rise.

A battery of speeches from Federal Reserve officials on Tuesday suggested that the Fed isn’t currently minded to put 75 basis point rate hikes back on the table, although Cleveland’s did warn that one should “never say never”.

Some others pointed out that Fed action has already taken the heat off the housing market. This should be reflected in the weekly mortgage applications numbers, which are due at 7 AM ET.

2. TerraUSD crashes as rescue plan for TerraUSD fails to gain traction

The TerraUSD stablecoin and the Luna token languished overnight as a rescue plan launched by Do Kwon and other creators of the coin’s underlying blockchain failed to restore confidence in the assets.

The TerraUSD stablecoin traded at just above 49c by 6:30 AM ET two days after it was effectively broken from its dollar peg. That was nevertheless an increase from the 27c intraday low.

Kwon sketches out some measuresfor returning the Twitter peg (NYSE: TWTR) within an hour. But he acknowledged that redemption pressures will likely continue to be strong in the near future.

Kwon and the Luna Foundation Guard – a group of crypto investors – have lent around $1.5 billion in the form of and dollars to the market-makers who usually keep the peg stable. However, it isn’t clear if that amount will be sufficient to cover the redemption demand.

TerraUSD does not have an algorithm backing it, as opposed to and.

3. Stocks to Open Higher; Toyota and Coinbase fail; Disney eyes

After finding a temporary bottom Tuesday, the U.S. stock market is expected to open higher. However, they will be in a holding mode ahead of CPI numbers.

By 6:15 AM ET they had increased 238 points or 0.8% and 0.9% respectively. They were also up 1.1% at the time.

Stocks most likely to be at the forefront include, which lost 12% Tuesday afternoon after disappointing results. The comments by Gary Gensler, the SEC chief, accusing cryptocurrency exchanges of trading in favor of their customers is unlikely to improve sentiment towards the stock. Toyota (NASDAQ:) will also be under scrutiny after it was revealed that a number of Covid-related plants had been closed. Electronic Arts (NASDAQ 🙂 has performed well in the midst of tech’s general weakness.

Early reporters Wednesday include Fiverr, Perrigo, Krispy Kreme and Wendy’s. Walt Disney receives top billing following the bell.

4. House approves $40 billion Ukraine deal

Although the House of Representatives passed a $40 billion package of aid for Ukraine, the Senate faces delays due to concerns about the lack of details and the possibility that the bill may be linked to another funding bill Covid-19.

The package includes some $18.7 billion in military aid, equivalent to around a quarter of Russia’s entire defense budget last year.

The Ukraine’s flow to Europe was affected when Naftogaz, the pipeline operator accused of illegally siphoning gas meant for other nations from the occupied areas of Ukraine. European natural gas prices rose at the public, but were quickly reversed. But, it remains open to debate how long-term Russian gas will be replaced this winter.

Shanghai: 5 oil rises due to signs of Covid hope

Crude oil prices have rebounded following the announcement by Chinese health authorities that Shanghai has no more cases of Covid-19, ending a two month lockdown. Shanghai’s problems have radiated out into the economies of surrounding regions, triggering a sharp drop in Chinese oil demand in recent weeks.

Futures rose 3.3% to $103.06 per barrel by 6:30 ET. They were down 3.1% to $105.64.

Official inventory estimates are published by the U.S. at 10:30 ET. The American Petroleum Institute’s figures had shown an unexpected rise of 823,000 barrels in crude stockpiles, adding to evidence that record-high prices for gasoline and diesel are hurting demand.
