WASHINGTON, (Reuters) – U.S. President Joe Biden will meet with manufacturers and retailers of infant formula on Thursday to discuss supply problems. The White House is expected to announce additional measures in order address the shortages.

Shortages developed after Abbott Laboratories (NYSE:) In February, Similac was recalled by the company after complaints from infants that they had contracted bacterial infections.

Abbott, the largest US supplier of milk-formula formula, indicated on Wednesday that they could resume production of infant formula within the next two weeks at the Michigan factory, which has been affected by shortages.

According to a White House official, Biden will receive an “update on the efforts to make infant formula more accessible to American families,” said a White House official.

However, the official could not give any details about which representatives from each company would be attending.

U.S. Food and Drug Administration stated it was working with producers to address supply issues and has indicated that some companies are running out of capacity.

Several U.S. retail outlets offer this service, which includes Target Corp (NYSE :), CVS Healthcare Corp (NYSE 🙂 and Walgreens Boots Alliance are restricted in-store and on-line formula buyers.
