(Reuters). Dallas police were on Thursday looking for a suspect who broke into a salon in Koreatown and fired upon three women. This incident echoed the shooting spree in Atlanta last year that was directed at people of Asian heritage.

According to ABC affiliate WFAA reports, all the victims, including the hairdresser at Hair World and the stylist working there, were Korean women. The victims were treated at a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Dallas Police Department stated that the suspect was a Black male, with thin builds, and weighing between 5 foot, 7 and 5 foot, 10 inches. After shooting, the shooter drove off in a minivan.

Although authorities denied knowing the cause of the fire, it was reminiscent of the shootings of 8 people at Atlanta’s massage spas. Six of them were Asian women or Asian-American.

These attacks raised fears among Asian communities about violence motivated by anti-immigrant sentiments. This has been exacerbated over recent years due to the belief that China is responsible for the global pandemic.

Dallas Police did not provide any details about the number of shots fired by the gunman in their statement.

Police circulated photos of the scene, which showed an individual wearing black with a large rifle carrying him while running from a lot.

Police spokespersons said that there had been no information on Thursday about the state of the women shot.

According to Pew Research Center data, Dallas’ Korean-American population is among the country’s largest. Koreatown is the main hub for area residents of Asian or Asian descent.
