TOKYO (Reuters: Nissan Motor Co) announced Thursday that the Japanese automaker made a profit during the fourth quarter. The cost reductions and sliding yen help offset rising materials costs.

Nissan posted a $556 billion ($433.24 Million) operating profit in the third quarter that ended March 31. This beats an average profit of 38.3 trillion yen forecasted by eight Refinitiv analysts.

In the same time period last year, it reported an operating loss in excess of 19 billion Japanese yen.
